On Sunday, Newport & District Running Club were represented by Phil Hardy and Dave Thomas at the Bayston & Lyth Hill 10k. After they managed to cool down afterwards (no mean feat!), Phil sent us the following report (with extra words from Dave at the end):
Myself and Dave Thomas took part in this 10k run, there were just the 2 of us there from the club. Lyth Hill is a country park in the quiet commuter village of Bayston Hill, 2 miles south of Shrewsbury off the A49. This race is still in its infancy, with fewer than 200 runners, and it was last held in 2024. I was brought up in the village, so for me it was a trip back to my youth in the 1970s and 80s.
It was a beautiful warm sunny morning, which meant it was hot running, especially after the first mile. It then had a 1-mile uphill section with a steady climb to the top of Lyth Hill. It was worth it, though, for its stunning views across the whole of mid and south Shropshire and the Welsh hills! A lot of off road ensued through a couple of farms, before ending up back to the sports fields in Bayston Hill. The roads were all closed.

I finished in 55 minutes, my predicted time, which I was pleased with, as it was hard going uphill in the heat! Dave finished in 48 minutes. Another medal to add to the collection!
Dave added afterwards: “It seemed like the whole race was uphill!”
Full results:
Dave finished 39th out of 147. 3rd in age category in a time of 48:02
Phill finished 78th out of 147. 6th in age category in a time of 55:01
