On Sunday, five members of Newport & District Running Club took part in the Blymhill “Shotgun” 10k, a local race now into its third year, and establishing itself as a favourite amongst runners looking for a varied, multi-terrain springtime race! This year saw a revised route introduced, as well as a 5k race alongside the 10k.

Starting and finishing at Blymhill village hall, the race is started by the firing of an actual shotgun (hence the name), and takes participants on a tour of the lanes, tracks and fields surrounding Blymhill and the local area. Initially, the route sends runners north, to Brineton, before looping around to the east, then the south, skirting around the village of Blymhill itself. After a pass through Weston-under-Lizard, runners cross one final field, turn left and finish back at the village hall.

This year, the race started under sunny conditions but turned damp during the event, and runners returned to the village a little soggier than when they left! James Triplett finished 7th overall, and was the first NDRC runner across the line, finishing in 42 minutes, 28 seconds. Alex Cochrane was next, finishing 17th in a time of 46:35, followed by David Thomas, who was 22nd with a time of 48:22. David Evans stopped the clock at 52:07 in 35th place, and Rachael Hughes was 131st with her time of 1:19:02.
