Last weekend, three Newport & District Running Club members made the short trip down the A41 to take part in the Wolverhampton 10k, a popular local road race which takes in roads to the north-west of the city centre, and features the start and finish within Molineux stadium, home of Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.

The route takes runners away from the stadium, in an anti-clockwise loop through Oxley and Claregate, before returning to the finish via a lap of West Park. Weather conditions were good for running: dry, warm but overcast, with not too much wind.

The Novaportan representatives were part of a field of 1,057 runners, and it was Alex Cochrane who led the Newport contingent home, finishing in a time of 44 minutes, 8 seconds, which bagged him 80th position. Mandy Purves was next, taking first position overall in her age category with a time of 47:30, and was 172nd overall. Helen Jackson completed the course in 58:56, which was a new personal best, and secured 505th place in the race.
