Newport & District Running Club’s Ellen Deighton travelled north to take part in the Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday 17th October. Starting at the university campus, runners head down into the city and past York Minster, before heading out into local villages and the countryside. The race then winds its way back towards the city with an uphill push to the finish back on the campus.

The day started with rain, but luckily this eased off about half an hour into the race, leaving the runners with fairly good running conditions. Ellen was running to raise money for Student Minds, the UK’s student mental health charity, and was pleased to finish in a time of 4:46:44, which was quicker than she expected.
