On Sunday, 250 runners took on the Tibberton Trot, Newport & District Running Club’s annual multi-terrain 10k race around the village of Tibberton and the surrounding countryside. Sold out once again, the race is proving to be a popular favourite with the local running community, with a 1k kids’ fun run taking place beforehand too.
Starting and finishing on the sports field at Tibberton School, the route takes runners on an anti-clockwise tour of the village before a wider loop of the surrounding countryside, taking in fields, tracks and country lanes. Featuring around 50 metres of climbing, the undulating course winds its way through the countryside to the north of the village, before returning to the playing field to finish in front of good support from the local community who turned out to watch the runners!
This year, there was a close-fought battle for the win, with Isaac Walley coming out on top, narrowly beating Rhys Hall by 15 seconds with a time of 36 minutes, 10 seconds. Alex Millington, of host club Newport & District RC, took third place overall in a time of 37:41. Lian Dye, in 18th position overall took the win in the women’s race, her time of 43:55 edging out Claire Martin (20th overall) of Telford AC by just 16 seconds. Molly Bithell rounded out the Women’s podium in a time of 46:09.
Newport & District RC were very well represented, both on the running and volunteering sides, and following Alex Millington in the green and purple were 27 clubmates. Charley Gibbons was fourth overall in a time of 39:08, closely followed by Dave Clarke, who was fifth with a time of 39:21. Harry Wilmot clocked 41:27 in finishing 7th, whilst Billy Higgins finished 13th in 42:53. Ashley Moore was 14th with his time of 43:19, followed by Matthew Walley, who was 15th in a time of 43:24.
Andy Churm was next, taking 40th place with his time of 49:03, whilst Adam Higgins clocked 49:07 to finish 42nd. Andrew Wilmot was 45th with his time of 50:14, and David Evans ran a time of 50:35 to finish 51st. Philip Hardy stopped the clock at 54:48 to take 69th position, whilst Elly Blake was 82nd in 56:36 and Nigel Ingram finished 103rd with a time of 59:50. Vance Heath was in hot pursuit, taking 105th with a time of 1:00:05, closely followed by Samantha Baker, who was 106th in 1:00:06 and Lauren Paul, who clocked a time of 1:00:26 in 107th position.
Maff Wellman took 133rd place with his time of 1:04:24, whilst Paul Atkinson ran a time of 1:08:06 in 170th position. Matthew Humphries finished 193rd in 1:11:47, whilst Alison Hodson clocked 1:12:26 in 199th, and Stephen Mansbridge clocked 1:13:23 in 203rd position. Joanne Lutner (in fancy dress!) completed the course in 1:14:53 for 213th place, whilst Joanna Scrimshire took 215th in 1:15:26. Claire Bennison finished 219th with her time of 1:15:50, just ahead of Lynn Mander, who ran a time of 1:16:01 in 221st place. Taryn Gronbeck clocked a time of 1:22:36 to finish 239th, whilst Rachael Hughes finished 245th in a time of 1:24:10
