On Sunday, a new local race made its debut – the Blymhill “Shotgun” 10k. Starting and finishing in the village of Blymhill itself, the route made use of the local roads and public footpaths for a 1-lap anticlockwise course, which was tackled by 94 runners, including 3 members of Newport & District Running Club. As well as the mixed terrain, which was rather muddy, participants tackled almost 80 metres of elevation gain on what was a pleasantly sunny day for racing.

Robin Guy was the first Newport runner to finish, taking 6th place overall and winning his age category – which came with a bag of spuds as a prize! His overall time was 47 minutes, 53 seconds. Alex Cochrane joined Robin in the top 10, with a 9th place finish, and 3rd in his age category, in a time of 51:01. Mandy Purves finished 28th overall and 2nd in her category, with a time of 58:06.
