The Newport 10k originally existed as the Newport Carnival 10k, where runners ran through the town as part of the route and were part of the carnival parade. In 2018, the race was reborn as the Newport & District 10k. After the 2019 edition, the race was paused for 3 years due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Starting and finishing at the historic Longford Hall, about 1 mile west of Newport (Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire), the race takes runners on a tour of the countryside surrounding Newport and the village of Edgmond.
Much of the race is run off-road, with a few road sections, and around 100m of climbing is featured.
In 2020, Newport & District RC’s members made this video of a “socially distanced” relay around the route of the race as a lockdown activity.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we will not be able to hold this event in 2024. We hope to return in 2025.
