Newport & District Running Club

Newport Running Club

NDRC “Grand Prix”

We are offering a new running experience for our members. Starting from 1 October 2023 and finishing on 30 September 2024, if you enter at least 7 of the listed races you will be in the running for a trophy which will be presented at the awards night which is combined with the club’s AGM.

How does it work?

For each race you enter, you will be awarded a number of points. The first club member to finish will be given 20 points, second is given 19 points, third is given 18 points etc. Points are awarded on a male/female basis. If there are more than 20 male or female participants points will be awarded based on the number of runners i.e., 23 male participants = points starting at 23.

These points will be collated and the male and female with the most points will win. If you enter more than 7 races only your top 7 scores will be used to work out your total score.

In order to qualify, you MUST enter as a Newport & District Running Club runner. This means you must be an EA Affiliated Member, rather than a social member. Obviously, you must use your own name.

Depending on the number of participants, prizes may be awarded for age groups instead of one male/female winner.

Full rules will be sent in due course once these are finalised. As this is the first year this event is being run there may be some changes/clarifications as the year progresses. Any changes will be communicated to club members.

Why are we doing this?

We want to encourage members to participate in local races, including club races and support the local running community with a variety of distances and terrains. Hopefully, there is something for everyone. We hope to foster a competitive, yet friendly, environment within the club and allow for an award that can be won without having to be a very fast runner.

Golden Points

In order to encourage members to volunteer at club races you can also automatically earn 20 points if you volunteer at a NDRC club race. This can only be done once per competitive year. So, in theory you could run 6 races above and volunteer once. Everyone who volunteers will get 20 points regardless of how many volunteers there are.

If you have any questions please get in touch with Louise Patterson who is co-ordinating this event at Treasurer2.ndrc@gmail.com

We hope you enjoy this new event and look forward to seeing how you all get on!
