On Saturday, three members of Newport & District Running Club’s took on the “Dirty Dozen” trail race on Cannock Chase. Advertised as a 12 kilometre race, the route took runners on a tour of central Cannock Chase, starting and finishing northeast of Marquis Drive.

Featuring more than 330 metres of elevation, the route tested runners to the limit, and the final distance came out at more than 13.5 kilometres! In a field of 263 runners, Amy Hughes finished 139th in a time of 1 hour, 36 minutes, 30 seconds. Rik Skingsley was 157th with his time of 1:40:13, and Annabel Bolton took 197th place with her time of 1:48:29.

Amy said afterwards: “It was definitely dirty, but definitely not the advertised 12k! 8.5 miles of twisty, rooty, muddy single-track, with lots of ups, lots of downs, and a waist-deep ‘ditch of doom’! Highly recommended to others for the future – don’t expect a fast time, but you will enjoy yourself!”
