Last Friday, Newport & District Running Club’s Dave Evans took on the Charles Darwin Day Half Marathon, a tough multi-lap race around the cycle track at Shrewsbury Sports Centre. With the track measuring just under 1km in length, competitors in the half marathon have to take on more than 21 laps, battling the mental challenge of repetition alongside the usual challenges that accompany long-distance running races.

The event also held 5k and 10k races too, and Dave was one of 14 people taking on the half marathon distance. With the event taking place on a weekday, the race tends to consist of a small field, but taking place in such a confined space, the capacity is limited anyway. The weather provided rain throughout, making conditions even tougher, and Dave finished with a time of 1 hour, 49 minutes, 42 seconds, enough to secure 4th place overall!
