On Sunday, seven members of Newport & District Running Club took on the Telford 10k, a popular annual race that takes place in Telford Town Park. This year, due to a sink hole opening up on the Silkin Way, much of the course was changed from previous editions, with runners now taking in a lap of the paths to the south of Randlay Pool, as well as the southern portion of the Silkin Way, which was unaffected by the sink hole. With a big net downhill, this is one of the fastest 10k courses in the country, and therefore very popular with runners.

Ash Moore was the fastest Novaportan entrant, taking 647th place overall in a time of 39 minutes, 31 seconds. Alex Cochrane wasn’t too far behind Ash, his time of 40:15 giving him 665th position, whilst James Triplett took 790th place in a time of 43:12. David Evans finished 978th with his time of 48:42, closely followed by David Thomas, who finished 990th with a time of 49:10. Philip Link clocked a time of 52:12 to finish 1,072nd, whilst Annabel Bolton was 1,237th with her time of 1:00:36.

Ash Moore said after the race: “The alternative course made it a little interesting this year, with a short, sharp hill to tackle on each looped lap. The last 200-300 metres were downhill though, so a “nicer” finish vs the standard course. I’ve not run the race in four years, and it seemed a lot busier this year, with some competitive runners physically elbowing and clipping at heels; if you didn’t get your start position right, you were going to suffer, as it didn’t open up until well into mile two. It’s still a good event, but maybe needs some organising tweaks with the increasing entrant numbers. Maybe more predicted finish time bands and an extra wave in there would be good”
