On Sunday, four members of Newport & District Running Club took on the Flying Fox 10-Miler, a 10-mile race organised by Stone Master Marathoners, starting and finishing in the village of Standon, in Staffordshire. Not one for the faint-hearted, the “brutal” route follows two different anti-clockwise laps, a short lap followed by a long lap, and features over 200 metres of climbing, with runners passing through the scenic villages of Chapel Chorlton and Maer on the longer lap.

303 people took part this year, and the race was largely made up of club runners, making for a very strong field. Alex Cochrane was the first NDRC runner to complete the course, finishing 62nd overall in a time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, 50 seconds. He was followed by Amy Hughes, who finished 188th with her time of 1:26:31. David Evans finished 190th overall in a time of 1:26:58, whilst Heather Campbell-Miles finished in 260th place with a time of 1:46:30.
