On Sunday, four members of Newport & District Running Club took part in the Hinstock 10k, a local race in its third year. Starting and finishing on Manor Farm Drive, the route takes runners on an anti-clockwise tour of the lanes to the east of the village, and features around 80 metres of elevation change. A 5k race and a junior fun run also took place at the same time. This year, the weather wasn’t kind to runners, with rain featuring heavily, and participants getting very wet!

Alex Cochrane leads Robin Guy towards the finish

In a field of 132 participants, Alex Cochrane was first back for Newport, taking 8th position overall in a time of 38:08, just edging out clubmate Robin Guy, who was 9th (as well as first in his age category) in a time of 38:10. Alex’s uncle David Evans took 28th position in a time of 45:27, whilst Phil Cross finished 50th in 51:20. This combined performance from the team also meant that NDRC won the team event too!
