Last Wednesday, Newport & District Running Club’s members were out in force at the Ironbridge 4-Miler, the fifth and penultimate race in this year’s Sexarathon series, organised by Telford AC. Starting and finishing just south of the Iron Bridge itself, the course takes runners east along “The Gorge”, crossing the river twice, first at the Jackfield and Coalport Memorial bridge, and then back to the south bank at the Woodbridge, before heading back to where they started along the former railway line (now the Severn Valley Way) and the local roads through Jackfield.

Alex Millington was the first NDRC runner to cross the line, completing the course in 24 minutes, 16 seconds, in 23rd place overall. Alex Cochrane finished in 36th position, stopping the clock at 25:11, followed closely by Harry Wilmot, who was 2nd in his age category, and 42nd overall, in 25:23. Robin Guy took 49th place, as well as 3rd in his age category, with his time of 25:42, whilst Adam Higgins took 129th spot in a time of 29:23.

A close- finishing quarter of Newport runners were led by Daniel Campbell-Miles, who was 137th overall in a time of 30:03. He was closely pursued by Phil Dolding, who ran a time of 30:06 in 139th, Peter Johnstone, who was 140th in 30:10, and David Evans, who finished 143rd in 30:13. David Thomas clocked 30:31 in finishing 146th, whilst Graham Rogers stopped the clock at 31:32 as he finished 169th.

Amy Hughes was Newport’s first female finisher, taking 214th place in a time of 33:32, followed by Oliver Stokes, who was 22nd overall in 33:49. Helen Mason took 227th place with her time of 34:03, whilst Phil Hardy was 247th with his time of 35:12 and Philip Link clocked 35:14 in 249th place. Ralph Humphries ran a time of 37:22 to take 278th overall, whilst he was followed by Simon Taylor, who finished 286th in 37:58.

Selwyn Plant clocked a time of 38:12 to finish 291st overall, whilst Matthew Humphries finished 307th in 40:08 and Louise Patterson stopped the clock at 41:05 to finish in 312nd position. Bernie Holbrook ran a time of 42:25 to finish 327th, whilst Liz Holbrook was 344th overall in a time of 46:15. Newport’s John Stokes volunteered as sweeper, completing the course with no official time given.
