On Sunday, Newport & District Running Club’s David Thomas took part in the inaugural running of the Chirk 10k, a new race taking place in and around the grounds of Chirk Castle. Featuring almost 200 metres of climbing, and taking place on one of the hottest days of the year, this was a race that tested runners even more than usual.

Starting and finishing on Station Road, just outside Chirk village, the route took runners on an “hourglass” shaped lap of the grounds of Chirk Castle itself, passing the castle building at around the 7 kilometre mark. After traversing a number of hills up to that point, the final 3 kilometres were mostly downhill, a welcome respite for the runners.

In a field of 482 runners, David finished 150th overall in a time of 53 minutes, 51 seconds, and will be in action again at the next Sexarathon race on Wednesday night!
