Every Spring, Stone Master Marathoners host the “Spring Treble”, a series of three 5-mile races on consecutive Thursdays in April, taking advantage of the lighter nights and (ideally!) better weather. The courses chosen for the three races are not always the same from year to year, but one thing is consistent – the routes are never flat!

This year, the series started with the “Kibblestone Klamber”, an aptly-named brutal 3-lap course taking place at the scout camp at Kibblestone. Almost 250 metres of climbing features in this race, and the terrain is made up of a mixture of grass, tarmac and woodland trails, making for a very tough start to the series. To add to the challenge this year, competitors had to scramble under a fallen tree!

This year, three members of Newport & District Running Club took on the challenge, and Graham Rogers was the first to finish for NDRC, coming in 45th overall in a time of 49 minutes, 49 seconds. Selwyn Plant was next, his time of 1:02:08 taking 80th position, whilst Ralph Humphries was 85th overall with his time of 1:04:05.
