On Saturday, Newport & District Running Club’s David Thomas and Dale Fordham represented the club at the Wildwood Trail 10k. It was their first attempt at a trail run, and the weather was a little gloomy in the Cannock Chase area driving through the fog en route. However, clearer conditions emerged for the race, warming to a pleasant 12 degrees.

The course was made up of varied terrain through the woodland trails, with mud, tree roots, and steep inclines and descents of around 500 feet to negotiate, which justified their investment in trail shoes! Out of a field of 130 runners, David came home 21st with a time of 55 minutes, 40 seconds, also taking 2nd place (of 18) in the veteran (50-60) age category. Dale crossed the line in 32nd place with a time of 59.54, 7th in the veteran (50-60) age grading.
