Recently, four members of Newport & District Running Club took on the Beckbury 10k, a local race which features mostly off-road tracks and trails, and features nearly 120 metres of climbing. Starting and finishing on Higfield Lane, just outside the village, the route takes runners on a well-marshalled and signposted undulating tour of the fields and tracks between Beckbury, Higfield and Badger.

David Brown led the Newport contingent, coming in 35th overall, and second in his age category, in a time of 50 minutes, 46 seconds, in a field of nearly 170 runners. Mandy Purves was next, 58th overall, and also first in her age category, with her time of 54:11. Helen Mason took 90th position in a time of 1:00:28, and Nick Wylie finished 11th with a time of 1:05:44.
