Last weekend, Jonathan Pierce of Newport & District Running Club took on the Berlin Marathon, one of the most popular and famous marathons in the world. Starting and finishing in the Tiergarten Park in central Berlin, the route features around 70 metres of elevation change, and takes runners on a clockwise tour of Berlin and its suburbs.

Jonathan was pleased to finish in a very impressive time of 3 hours, 27 minutes, 22 seconds, and said afterwards: “Berlin was my 30th marathon but 1st as a Vet60. Very pleased with my time, and felt strong all the way. With 58,000 participants, it was a dense running pack, and difficult to stay on the blue run line, so ended up running 0.7k more. Perfect conditions: 19 degrees dry with a slight breeze. The crowds were amazing, and always something to look at, so the time went quickly. I recommend this marathon – a nice flat course.”
