On Sunday, two members of Newport & District Running Club took part in the Shrewsbury 10k, an annual road race which takes place in and around the centre of the county town. Starting and finishing in The Quarry, the route takes runners on a tour of the town centre, before crossing the Frankwell Bridge and skirting around the suburbs to the west of the river, before crossing back over the English Bridge. Around 125 metres of climbing is done overall, due to the undulating nature of the town centre and surrounding areas.

This year, 1,260 runners took part in the race, and Newport was represented by uncle and nephew team David Evans and Alex Cochrane. Alex was first home of the pair, taking 63rd place overall in a time of 40 minutes, 58 seconds, whilst David finished 352nd with a time of 49:57.
