On Sunday, three members of Newport & District Running Club took part in the Cheswardine 5-mile fun run. Held as a community fundraising event rather than an official race, the event has taken place annually since 1999, and raises money for both local and national causes. Participants can walk, run or cycle the course.

Despite being advertised erroneously as a 5k this year, the route is a tough, hilly 1-lap, 5-mile course starting at the Fox & Hounds pub, featuring 3 big climbs, and finishing on the main road in Cheswardine. No official times are available, but Alex Cochrane finished in approximately 33 minutes, 19 seconds, with his uncle David Evans clocking a time of approximately 37:27. Youngster (9 years old!) Martha Roper also took part, finishing in around 43:47, and can be seen mixing it with the adults!
