On Sunday, Newport & District Running Club’s Steve Cannon took part in the Bristol 10k, a road race which takes place on an anti-clockwise course that takes runners on a tour of the city of Bristol. The race is part of the “Great Run” series, and a half marathon also takes place on the same utilisting part of the same course, with over 15,000 people taking part across both events. Starting and finishing in “Canon’s Marsh”, runners head west initially, before crossing the floating harbour and turning to head east past Spike Island and Wapping Wharf.

Runners are then taken on a winding tour of various central areas, such as Queen Square, Recliffe, Finzels Reach and Old City, before taking the finish. Featuring just over 25 metres of climbing, this is a relatively flat course compared to most, and Steve finished in 4,318th place overall, with an official finish time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, 15 seconds, with a 5k split time of 32:11, showing a consistent pace through the race.
