On Sunday, two members of Newport & District RC made the trip up north to Yorkshire to take part in the Leeds Marathon. Featuring over 400 metres of climbing, this is a very challenging route that starts and finishes in Headingley, taking runners on an anticlockwise loop on a tour of the countryside to the north of the city. This year, around 14,000 runners took on the course, which takes runners through places such as Otley, Arthington, Bramhope, and Pool-in-Wharfedale.

As well as the tough course, which features a massive climb of almost 150m just after the 25km mark, this year the weather threw a very hot day at the runners, so keeping cool and hydrated was another obstacle. Rising to the challenge for Newport were Aaron Nicholas, who ran a marathon PB of 3 hours, 45 minutes 49 seconds, and Vance Heath, who ran his first ever marathon, stopping the clock at 4:21:09.
