Last Friday, David Evans of Newport & District Running Club took part in the Darwin Day 10k, part of a collection of races that took place to celebrate Darwin Day, the birthday of Charles Darwin. Hosted at Shrewsbury’s purpose-built sports village, the races took place on the cycle track, meaning that no roads were closed, yet runners could enjoy a traffic-free, chip timed race, as long as they didn’t mind doing multiple laps!

Also on offer were a full marathon, half marathon and 5k, with David taking on the 10k distance. He finished 6th overall out of 26 finishers, in a time of 49 minutes, 50 seconds. Due to the limited space, places were restricted to 150 overall, with the marathon seeming like the most popular choice!
