On Sunday, two members of Newport & District RC made the trip down the A41 to Wolverhampton to take part in the annual Turkey Trot. This 5-mile race traditionally takes place in the run up to Christmas (although 2022’s edition was postponed until January 2023 due to ice).

Starting and finishing at Aldersley Leisure Centre, the route takes in a single anti-clockwise lap of the Pendeford and Dovecotes neighbourhoods, featuring only around 45 metres of elevation changes, making for a relatively flat(ish) course. Most of the elevation changes were contained within two climbs, in the first and fourth miles, while the finish was all downhill.

Alex Cochrane was the first Novaportan runner to finish, taking 3rd in the male aged 14-19 age category, as well as 34th overall, in a time of 35 minutes, 53 seconds. His uncle, David Evans, took 51st place overall just over 3 minutes later, stopping the clock at 38:55.
