On Sunday, Newport & District Running Club’s David Evans took part in one of the many races that make up the “Railway Ultra”, an event with five different distances to choose from. With the shortest race at 9 miles, and the longest at 37, David took on the Half Marathon, and was part of a field of 19 runners in that race.

The race takes place on the banks of the river Severn between Ironbridge and Bridgnorth, on a mixture of road and track terrain, with a dose of elevation thrown in for good measure when running upstream. Despite this, David managed to beat the 2-hour mark, finishing 5th overall in a total time of 1 hour, 58 minutes, 38 seconds and only 16 minutes behind the overall winner.
