Last Thursday saw the start of this year’s Spring Treble series, a set of three (approximately) 5-mile races hosted by Stone Master Marathoners. Popular with local runners, this Thursday evening series takes place over three consecutive weeks and consists of off-road courses that feature a large amount of climbing and elevation change.
This year saw the series kick off with the Milford Mayhem race for the first time in a few years. Featuring nearly 200 metres of climbing, the course starts and finishes near Milford Common, taking runners on a “lollipop” style route over the north-west portion of Cannock Chase.

This year, four members of Newport & District Running Club took to the start line of the first race of the series, and it was Alex Millington who placed highest of the Novaportan entrants, as he took 7th place overall in a time of 27 minutes, 40 seconds. David Clarke wasn’t too far back from Alex, taking 11th position and clocking a time of 28:35. Oliver Stokes was next for Newport, 77th overall in 39:49, whilst Selwyn Plant rounded out the Newport contingent with a time of 44:17 for 96th place.
The next race takes place on Thursday 20th April at Kibblestone.
