On Sunday, father and son team Ralph and Matthew Humphries of Newport & District Running Club took part in the Wolverhampton 10k, a road race which starts and finishes at Molineux stadium. The race takes in a single anti-clockwise lap of the roads to the northwest of Wolverhampton city centre, including Oxley Park, Aldersley, Whitmore Reans, and a lap of West Park in the final stages of the race, a location which many runners will know from the local parkrun.

Ralph and Matthew were amongst a field of almost 1,300 runners, with Ralph finishing 643rd overall, and Matthew 725th. Ralph said afterwards: “All of the roads were closed, the marshals were all in the right places, but the course was undulating! We did run together for the first 5k, but I lost Mattie at the water station, so I did what all dads do: push on and wait for him at the finish! I did it in 57 minutes 31 seconds, and Mattie’s time was 59:43
