On Sunday, Nick and Sue Wylie of Newport & District Running Club took on the Palma 10k on the island of Mallorca. This race takes place in October every year, and attracts many international entrants, as well as locals. The race takes place alongside the Palma Marathon and Half Marathon, making for a festival-like atmosphere, as competitors can support other races when they are not running.

The 10k route takes runners on a tour of the bay in Palma itself, with the start and finish lines near to the Catedral de Mallorca, and runners taking in and out-and-back route around the bay, giving opportunities to support fellow runners and enjoy the sights. Almost 2,000 people took to the start line this year.

At the finish line, Nick came in with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute, 59 seconds for 1,205th position, whilst Sue finished 1,292nd in 1:03:44. Despite the heat, they both enjoyed the experience, and after the race, Nick said: “It was great to see so many clubs representing the U.K. on the Spanish island. Superbly organised for the thousands that entered. Now to relax!”
