Last weekend, four members of Newport & District Running Club made the trip to Wales to take part in the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon. This race, which has long been popular with NDRC members, takes in a clockwise lap of the lake, with the course starting and finishing at Abertridwr. There are few elevation changes, making for a fast, flat scenic course, and fast times are common.

David Clarke was the fastest Novaportan runner on the day, taking 42nd place overall (out of 825 finishers) in a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes, 26 seconds. Phil Dolding was next, his time of 1:39:54 securing 106th position overall. Christian Barbagallo finished 438th in a time of 1:53:34, whilst Selwyn Plant recorded a time of 2:13:09 to take 658th overall. The NDRC contingent were joined by local teacher Xue Han, who teaches Chemistry at Haberdashers’ Adams school; she completed the course in 2:01:54, taking 541st position.
